Water Lantern Celebration 2020

"Lighting the Way for People of All Abilities"

October 3, 2020 (Rain Date October 4, 2020)

Plattwood Park - Deep River Connecticut   6:30-8:00 pm

Join us for an uplifting community event celebrating the lives of individuals of all abilities. Participants will decorate water lanterns and be part of creating an inspiring scene at Platwood Park live streamed for all. Hundreds of water lanterns inscribed with personal greetings and memories will be launched on the pond at beautiful Plattwood Park. This heartwarming event is just what we all need during these challenging times!

Together we will show what compassion, kindness and inclusion looks like. 

Sarah Cody, WTNH Channel 8 Reporter and Anchor will be our Host this year!

 

How it Works:

1. Purchase Lanterns:

Purchase lanterns through the secure online link at the top of this page or come into The Nest Coffee House to purchase with cash or check.

Lantern Pricing:

  • Individual Lanterns $15 per Lantern
  • Family Pack of 4 Lanterns $50 per pack
  • Compassion Lanterns $10  (we will distribute these lanterns to deserving community members who would like to attend)

2. Lantern Pick-up:

  • Pick-Up Water Lanterns at The Nest Coffee House safely:
    • Tuesday 9/22 - Friday 10/2
  • Receive your free Water Lantern Canvas Tote. 
  • Get creative to decorate and personalize your lantern safely at home. Decorating ideas and tips are included! 
  • Water lanterns are environmentally friendly - made of wood and rice paper with an LED candle.  Lanterns will be floated on the pond not launched into the air. All lanterns will be retrieved from the pond following the event and recycled or re-used properly. 

3. Lantern Drop off Saturday, 10/3   5:00-6:30 PM:

  • Drop off decorated and assembled lanterns via our safe drive through at Plattwood Park beginning from 5:00 - 6:30 PM. Our volunteers will add LED candles to each lantern.
  • Receive Launch Watch Party Bag at the drop off site.  Bag includes snacks, Water Lantern Program, a Nest Bumper Sticker and special gifts made by Nest staff, friends and volunteers.  

4. Lantern Live Stream 10/3   6:30 - 8:00 PM:

  • Head home to enjoy the live stream from your own couch! 
  • All lanterns will be individually launched by our volunteers during the live stream.
  • The Live stream will be hosted by Sarah Cody of News 8 WTNH and will include interviews and performances by the talented young adults in our community as well as interviews with community members.

Water Lantern 2020 is a fundraiser for A Little Compassion

ALC is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to change the lives of young adults with autism, intellectual and developmental abilities by creating employment and social opportunities that nurture their unique skills, strengths, and preferences. We believe that every young adult should have the opportunity the thrive in their own community with the supports they need.  The Nest Coffee House on Main Street in Deep River currently employs over 20 young adults with autism or intellectual/developmental disabilities and provides structured social gatherings for over hundreds of individuals across the state. The Nest is more than a place for great coffee, ice cream, baked goods, salads and sandwiches...it is a welcoming, safe, and purposeful space for everyone to enjoy.  Your support during this difficult time is very important and appreciated.
